Default Is there anything but desert in this game?

First off, I want to say that I love this game (besides having to grind for sunspear pts). However, what this game is lacking is diverse environments....I would say i've uncovered roughly 20% of the mainland, and...nothing but desert with a few 'lush' trees here and there...maybe africa wasn't the best choice of location?

I can kind of agree in a way. I really enjoyed the Shiverpeaks in Prophecies, and was a little dissapointed to see the small amount of snow-covered terrain in Factions reduced to none in Nightfall. Maybe chapter 4?

I love snowy areas...prophecies was really diverse, the only boring areas to look at were...guess where? the desert areas! factions was OK, there was the city which i didnt like, the forest area was cool, and the water area was cool. elona....desert, desert, and more desert

Thats probably the one thing I dislike most so far... I mean desert is better than friggen post ascalon, but it's really getting old. Although, if you look at the world map, all you see is tan-ish blur, so probably desert is the only prominent terrain.

the upper left looks a lot darker so i think its more hellish looking, its probably a cross between the desert and the ring of fire....but still, yeah with chapter 4 i hope we get more diversity

Not to mention the starter island! It was about 90% forest/rainforest feel to it, and that small center area of the island as desert.

...
Cheers!

Next GW chapter will be spent on the Himalaias, with Big-Foots, Snow Ogres, Dwarfs and Gnomes wandering around.

Chapter 5 will be underwater, with sharks, squids, and lots of fishs wandering around.

Chapter 6 will be in space, with NASA rockets and satellites flying, spaceships, pirates, and etc.

Let us wait for an ArenaNet to even confirm the next 3 chapters.

Calm down and play this one first

i liked the desert in prophesies but hated the wilds ... all those nasty pop-ups

factions was ... well the city was kinda boring, the forest was great, and the jade sea was well mediocure.

We'll i've not gotten that far in elona, but i must say i like the savana feel 2 it. Not desert, not forest but something in between. Cant wait to get 2 the other area's.

I'm actually enjoying the desert, and enjoyed it even more when it started raining when I got to that fort. (Until I got owned by around 30 Kourmans)

I love the desert so far, I don't know how, but they managed to make it really diverse, every area looks different.

Are you kidding? This is the most interesting looking desert area ever. The main land is way more diverse with little exciting things to look at all over the place. Much more engaging than anything in Prophices or Factions in my opinion.

I was orginally concerned about the fact it was one big desert but its the most entertaining desert I could have asked for. Well.. except for a sandstorm

I was bored to tears with the terrain on Istan, really didn't like it...

... but now I'm in Kourna on the mainland... WOW! It's beautiful and I'm loving the massive open areas.

It's yet to top the Jade Sea for sheer beauty, imagination and 'wow' factor but it's still a fantastic environment.

Vabbi should be quite differant... not sure what to make of the Desolation, and of course the Realm of Torment willl be VERY differant.
